About
The Maker
Hi, I am Pinar. The designer and maker behind Pinpottery. I create geometric functional ceramics in my home studio in Prague. They are for design-obsessed people who want a little art to be part of their everyday rituals.
"Is my chaos in order?"
I am a person of contrasts. Every day is a search for balance between a free spirit, a scattered mind full of ideas and a need for an organized, disciplined way of living. Perhaps my work could only come from that tension.
Geometry
My mother is an engineer. She taught me mathematics not through formulas, but through drawing. I remember being fascinated by her extraordinary talent for drawing, and by how she could make abstract concepts feel concrete through shapes and geometry. At school, I was obsessed with mathematics and geometry. They seemed to explain so much about how the world worked. Years later, it naturally reflected in my work.
Clay
I have an endless appetite for making things. I learned to draw, paint, sew, knit, make jewelry, macrame, leatherwork, glasswork. I played music, I sing. I have tens of hobbies. Every new skill feels like another puzzle to be solved.
When I started ceramics in 2018 as my next hobby, clay turned out to be the one material where I could never say, “OK, I got this. What’s next?” It has its own personality, takes time to see the result and is unpredictable. It taught me patience, how to make peace with failure, and how to let go.
My obsession with geometric forms, and the challenge of forcing them to become functional, ergonomic objects, hooked me.
From an Idea to an Object
My designs usually appear first in my head. I turn a form around like a three-dimensional model, testing every angle before prototyping. I imagine where the light should catch an edge, how the object should feel in the hand, and how it should function. Then the challenge begins: translating that perfectly imagined object into one of the most unpredictable materials there is.
The Final Cut
I spend a ridiculous amount of time on the details and refining of my designs. I need crips edges, right angles, a thin rim, an ergonomic handle. After all the steps and strict quality checks during making, I test the final piece for function and ergonomics. Still, not everything makes it to the finals. The ones that do are ready for upgrading your daily rituals.
